Flexion Deformity

Flexion Deformity
In this type of deformity the knee joint cannot straighten completely. The legs can get tired easily and in severe cases, it causes limping gait.
Cause of Flexion Deformity
01
Bone Deformity
First, bone deformity may be a cause. Accurate examination of the location of the bone deformity is important for treatment. In the long-term, it can cause degenerative rupture of the cruciate ligaments of the knee or subluxation/dislocation of the knee joint if not properly located.
02
Joint Problem
Second, there may be a problem inside the knee joint. Discoid meniscus, avulsion fracture of anterior cruciate ligament and degenerative arthritis can also cause knee flexion.
03
Muscle Contracture
Finally, muscle contracture may be a cause. If the backside muscles of the knee are shortened, knee flexion can occur even if the bone and knee joint are normal.
